Holistic Therapies Introduction

When people hear the words “Holistic Therapy” they conjure up an image of witch doctors and sandal wearing new age hippies, but the fact of the matter is that holistic means “Whole”.

Holistic Therapies are therefore therapies that treat the whole person - body, mind and spirit, they don’t just focus in on the illness or issues.
Holistic therapies are often called energy therapies as they work on the subtle energy that flows around the body through tiny channels. In Chinese medicine these channels are called meridians and the subtle energy - chi.

If you take a closer look at holistic therapies like acupuncture, reiki and EFT you will find they all work to the same meridian lay out of the body.
When blockages occur in the meridian points imbalances to the flow of energy begin and this is when we can start to feel sluggish, depressed or even develop serious illnesses.

By allowing the chi (or subtle energy) to flow freely around the body it is said that you will be healthy and have a happy mind.
Acupuncture works by pushing thin needles into certain meridian points and clearing the blockage and dispersing the energy.
Reiki works by channelling energy into the whole body and allowing the energy to correct any imbalances.
EFT works by tapping on the acupuncture points instead of using needles to resonate the energy and therefore clear the blockages.

There have been lots of tests over the years about how effective holistic therapies are, my advice would be try them and see for yourself. Unlike conventional  medicine that often only masks the illness, holistic therapies can actually get to the root of them and could even cure them.

Remember to talk to your doctor before embarking on any new therapy and don’t substitute a holistic therapy for your current medication.
